Repercussion
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. One of the basic tenets of physics drives everything that goes on in your world. Often times we seem to forget that charming fact as we go about our lives wondering why things don’t go as planned.
I’m not talking about shooting a game of pool here, simple elegant geometric straight lines of directed motion, I’m talking about the complexities of wave motion. Drop a stone into the pond and watch the ripples emanate from the point of impact. Notice how those ripples slide across the water in perfect uniformity until that wave strikes an anomaly on the surface of the water. Now if it’s something small, like a branch hanging down into the water, that wave will shiver and continue around it, naturally pursuing the original vector of motion. When it hits the edge of the pond it will bounce back according to the shape of the shoreline, erratically moving and flexing until the energy is played out. But wait, that pebble also sinks through the water effecting more movement displacing water molecules as it travels to the bottom. Complex and beautiful reactions set into motion by simply dropping a stone into water.
Those sorts of reactions are happening every time we interact with the world. A myriad of consequences large and small emanating from everything we do. As a living breathing individual, it is important to use your brain to best predetermine what happens next. Do your homework and learn the basics. Weave them into the equations that fit your current predicament. Yes! Use that beautiful rational mind to do something other than regurgitate what some other person has to say. Apply yourself with forethought. Suddenly those curtains will open up and you will know exactly why your current situation is fubar or idyllic. You will understand the repercussions of your actions and be properly equipped to deal with the consequences. Believe it or not, that’s physics.
Oooooh this commonsense stuff is hard, OMG I have to work at it?……..that’s why there seems to be a dearth of it these days.
Here’s to those of you who make the effort! By doing so, you make not only your own world but also the world around you a better place. That’s just commonsense.
Your faithful servant
